Troop 419 Personal Pack / Equipment Checklist

  • Tents assigned
  • Backpack is adequate and properly adjusted
    • Everything is secured well, with no bungee cords.
    • Nothing is hanging outside of backpack
    • Adequate hip belt, supporting at least 60% of pack weight
    • Adequate shoulder straps
    • Weight of pack does not exceed 25% of hiker's body weight
    • Scout carries nothing in his hands (except walking stick).
  • Compressed sleeping bag, with adequate rain cover.
  • Adequate waterproof ground cloth.
  • Plastic plate, bowl, cup, knife, fork and spoon. (Cup can be a bi-metal "Sierra Cup")
  • Scouting Ten Essentials (all packed in a daypack bag).
    • Pocketknife
    • Extra clothing
    • Flashlight
    • Matches & Fire starters
    • Wide mouth, plastic water bottle in pack, not on belt.
    • First Aid kit
    • Good rain gear (coat/parka and pants)
    • Trail mix food
    • Sun block
    • Compass and map of area
  • Appropriate insect repellent (enough quantity for trip)
  • Layered clothing system
  • Personal grooming kit
  • 50' nylon parachute (shock) cord
  • Patrol Gear (use Troop 419 Patrol Gear Inspection Sheet)
