Troop 419 - Tigard, Oregon

The Cost Of Scouting
Annual Costs which should be earned by Boys

Boys should earn the money for these expenses. While it may be easier for parents to pay these fees, boys develop a sense of responsibility, ownership and value for their program if they pay the fees themselves.

  • Registration, Boys' Life Magazine, insurance $ 18.00
  • Summer Camp (including spending money) $ 150.00
  • Fees for troop activities (horses, winterlodge, swim nights) $ 40.00
  • Food for Campouts $ 90.00

Annual Costs For Families

  • Family participation in Friends of Scouting campaign (at least) $ 55.00
With successful FOS campaigns, we earn discounts on many council fees including summer camp.

Startup and Infrequent Costs

  • Official Boy Scout Handbook (Hard bound with Vinyl Cover) $ 24.45
  • Uniform (if brand new) $ 60.00
  • Insignia (available through Troop 419) $ 11.00 (includes CPC patch, $3.50; troop numeral, $1.75; Quality Unity patch, Patrol medallion, $1.45; World Scout Crest emblem, $1.15; Pioneer District Patch, $2.50)

The items below are very important for a boy's participation in our outdoor program. They often can be purchased at garage sales or from other sources of "pre-owned gear." It is important, however, that this equipment be rugged and of good quality, since the troop does many high adventure activities through the year. We encourage boys to earn the money for these items:

  • Hiking boots $ 50.00 to 90.00
  • Backpack (if brand new) $ 60.00 to 100.00
  • Sleeping bag (if brand new) $ 75.00 to 100.00
  • Miscellaneous camping gear (if brand new) $ 50.00 to 70.00
